Bringing Photography to Life with Stop Motion

When Wagga Wagga City Council finished compiling their new visitor guide, their next step was to publish, advertise, and circulate it. This 2021-22 edition of the annual booklet coincided with the much needed release of Covid-19 travel restrictions and would, ideally, welcome visitors to once again enjoy everything on offer in the region while also supporting the local businesses who rely on their patronage.

To that end, the council engaged me to produce a pair of stop motion animations for their social media campaign, leveraging the gorgeous photography of the local scenery featured in the guide. Having worked with Wagga Wagga City Council several times now, they trusted me to deliver my first stop-motion animation to create an impactful piece for social media. With a stop motion page-turning walkthrough and simple animated elements to bring the already appealing booklet to life, we gave potential visitors a taste of what they could expect in our region.

The selection of stop motion as a medium deserves another nod. Social media animations can be far more than just tastefully animated brand elements, appealingly drawn or modelled figures, or eye-catching, scroll-stopping exhibitions. The possibilities extend exactly as far as your imagination and, in this project, Wagga Wagga City Council found a delightful direction to pursue.
